I am listening to this on audio CD and I can say that the reader is one of the worst I've ever listened to , so be aware if you are considering it on audio. She sounds like a petulant 12 year old. There are a lot of children in this mind-numbing book so I guess she sounds like them, but she still sounds like a child doing the adult parts. Awful. I had to keep turning it off it was so bad.I am 10 chapters in, have seen nothing about "the letters", which was why I got this book in the first place. There are too many characters, which I still haven't gotten straight. They were explained very badly, there is barely a story here, just a bunch of kids fighting with eachother. I am giving up on this mess of a book.

The Letters A Novel The Inn at Eagle Hill Volume 1 Suzanne Woods Fisher 9780800720933 Books Reviews
At first, I thought I wasn't going to like this book because it was confusing as to which character I was reading about but after several chapters it fell into place and very much enjoyed the story and had no problem reading about the individuals in the family and what was happening in their lives.
I think Suzanne Woods Fisher did a wonderful job capturing each character in the book and making them feel like people you could relate to. I felt Sammy's pain at being the youngest brother and I wept with their border who felt betrayed at a critical time in her life. There were well over ten people who had predominant parts in the story yet I was always able to keep them straight and had emotional feelings for each one. The story line kept me interested and the author was able to do something few authors I have read recently have been able to do, she put a true ending on the book. So many books I've recently read had me turning pages to see if I had missed a page or they left me hanging wondering about the outcome. This book was like sitting down to a spectacular meal and finishing with a five star dessert. When it was over I felt satified. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I've read many of Suzanne Woods Fisher books, but I have to say that this has to be my favorite thus far. I enjoyed how the author turned tragic situations into situations of hope, faith and miracles.
I really enjoyed the various characters and the way the author seemed to made them each have their own stories, personalities and levels of faith.
I liked how the main character was lead by the Lord to open a bed and breakfast in her home and provided customers before any renovations or remodelling were done to her mother in-laws home.
I loved the various romances that were going on in the book and the differences each relationship had. I appreciate how the author makes the romances believable and how they are done in a clean and tasteful way.
I can't wait to order the additional books in the series.
Enjoy.

I have read almost all of Suzanne Woods Fishers books and all of her characters I have grown to love but this story is by far; my favorite. I am starting to feel sad because I know I only have a few more books to read. One thing I do want to say is that I actually feel like I am becoming closer to God through these stories. I have never read any novel before that made me want to become a better person. I an odd way they are a testimony of God's love. Thank you Suzanne
This is the second Suzanne Woods Fisher Amish novel I've read. The first was "The Keeper." If like me, you downloaded both for free and are deciding which to read first, "The Keeper" takes place about ten years before this one. If you read that one first, you'll know who Jimmy Fisher is. He's introduced as a boy in "The Keeper," and as a young man, has a major role in "The Letters." I liked the characters in both novels, but "The Keeper" had more preaching and I hated the ending. For that reason, I liked "The Letters" better.
I also want to note that some Amish novels are filled with italicized words. I suppose some readers feel these add authenticity, but I find them distracting and appreciate that Fisher doesn't use them. If you like pure, Christian reads, you should enjoy her books.
My goodness, so much included in a story setting; a very busy widow woman, 4 children with their own stories included, a mother in law, Vera, you wouldn't wish on anyone, certainly not on the object of the story, Rose. Her children, 2 stepchildren Tobe & Bethany every bit as important to her as her 3 children by birth, sweet Mim on the verge of moving from a little girl to young womanhood..You will love her, also son's Sammy & Luke.
A wonderful neighbor man named Galen, who knows thoroughbred horses like no other. Galen also knows people in a kind, considerate manner, most especially Rose's two sons, Sammy & Luke. He knows Jimmy, another young man, who needs a man's touch.
Then you have the Delia, the house guest in the newly finished basement who's rent will hopefully offset extreme lack of money issues in Rose Schrock' s life. Delia' s story is included as well.
I really enjoyed the book, you will too. There was a bit of a "black books" mystery as well as a missing stepson that was not necessarily answered...did I miss something or is this to be addressed in another book? I don't know, but this book was a kind, gentle story of many..everyday people with everyday lives, but oh so interesting to be included. Read & enjoy.
I really liked the characters of Rose and Galen.
Delia's heartbreak and thoughtful life changes are an important part of the story, too
It's refreshing to read a novel about Christians, who are aware enough to try for positive actions in trying situations. AND no profanity, no steamy sex scenes.Thank you.
